Springfield Rotary Club Gives Major Donations

April 24, 2013 by Tim Ernst Leave a Comment

The Rotary Club of Springfield Township gave two large donations to worthy causes this week. First, a check for $1,000 to Pitch In For Baseball. A program that now stretches around the world providing gently used or new baseball equipment to children. They judge their progress, one smile at a time. Pictured Left to Right, Rotarian Bill Piszek (founder and Board Member) and President Linda Silva.
Also visiting the Rotary Club of Springfield was Barbara Kroberger, wife of Rotarian Jeff Kroberger who will be traveling to Uganda this summer. The Rotary Club of Springfield Township established a relationship in 2005 with the Nyaka Aids Orphanage, having already helped on many levels including the installation of a water tower for clean water. Kroberger will be traveling to provide funds for new housing for the grandmothers that now look over a generation of children whose parents have died from AIDS. Each home costs $3,000 to build. The Club contributed for one of these homes. Pictured Left to Right: President Linda Silva, Barbara Kroberger, and Treasurer Joy Zwicker.

The Rotary Club of Springfield Township was proud to bestow upon their oldest Rotarian, George Struzyna, the honor of a three Ruby Level, Paul Harris Fellow. This is the highest level a Rotarian can achieve, having donated $10,0000 or more to the Rotary Foundation. Since the first donation of $26.50 in 1917, the Rotary Foundation has received contributions totaling more than $1 billion. To date, more than one million individuals have been recognized as Paul Harris Fellows– people who have given $1,000 to the Annual Programs Fund or have had that amount contributed in their name. Such strong support, along with Rotarian involvement worldwide, ensures a secure future for The Rotary Foundation as it continues its vital work for international understanding and world peace.

Rotary Exchange Student Program Changes Lives

March 18, 2013 by Tim Ernst 1 Comment

The Springfield Rotary Club welcomed past foreign exchange student Becky Holcomb to speak about her experience of traveling abroad to Belgium for a year when she was sponsored by the Club in the early 1990’s. Her experience, as she shared with the club, was one of the most amazing life changing moments. To this day, Holcomb retains close bonds with her host family abroad. The program also featured an introduction of current outbound exchange student Jennie Lukoff who will also be going to Beligium. Springfield Rotary strives to give foreign exchange opportunities to seniors in our community while also hosting inbound students. The goal is to create peace and understanding and cultural exchange as part of their humanitarian efforts.
