Rotary Teams with First Presbyterian Church to Help a Neighbor in Need

On Saturday, May 2, members of First Presbyterian Church, Flourtown and The Springfield Township Rotary Club came together to help a struggling family in the community. The two organizations share a core mission of serving others, as well as a desire to give back to the community in which they reside.   This natural synergy led them to seek out a local resident in need of some helping hands.  Through networking they were introduced to a Wyndmoor family who has been through, and is still facing, some challenging circumstances.  This deserving family has a home in need of a little love and care; a perfect project for this hands-on mission team. The goals of the project were to replace worn out windows so the home will be better prepared for next winter, clean up the yard and do spring planting, and provide general exterior maintenance. Volunteers worked to clear gutters and make minor repairs to the siding. While the contractor-savvy participants worked to replace the front door and windows, others dove right into weeding beds, raking leaves, and removing ivy and debris from the yard. Perennial plants were donated and the garden beds were mulched. A number of local businesses also assisted in the efforts by donating their services.  Militello Painting and Power Washing power washed the exterior of the home and the front roof.  Scott’s Tree Service took down a large fallen tree limb and will be removing the brush debris from the property. Wilson Landscaping mowed and edged the lawn, and Michael DeLaurentis Concrete will be doing some concrete repairs at the site.  The goals of this joint effort were all achieved, along with good fellowship between the two organizations and the homeowner, and the knowledge that a struggling family has felt the love and support of their community.

Rotarians Roll Up Sleeves to Help Face-to-Face for MLK Day

January 21, 2015 by Tim Ernst Leave a Comment

Once again, The Springfield Township Rotary Club rolled up their sleeves and participated in Martin Luther King Day, by doing what they do best, “Service Above Self”. Mike Creeden and his kitchen staff at Sandy Run Country Club prepared a wonderful meal for Face to Face in Germantown. Joe Bonus of Bonus Marketing was a great help today with transport as were Rotary members who served the meal at Face to Face. Following the meal at Face to Face, Rotarian Claudia Campbell of Tabitha Harrier Concierge drove to Arcadia to pick-up donated items and then delivered them to Face to Face. To date our toiletry drive items total 2,141 and Rotary will have additional items for Face to Face during the month of January due to the generosity of the Springfield Democrats who also collected.
