Claudia Campbell, Rotarian, Shares Her Children’s Book with Guests of the Chestnut Hill Library

Claudia Campbell, author, shares her book, Whoever Heard of Such a Thing, with Nataliya Turchyn and her daughter Emilia, as Lynne Hasse, Children’s Librarian looks on.

Claudia Campbell, a Rotary member and Flourtown resident and local business owner, is the author of a recently published children’s book. On a bright, early spring day, Claudia Campbell read her new book, Whoever Heard of Such a Thing at the Chestnut Hill Library. Claudia’s book is a whimsical romp through the world of the imagination. The book stands in contrast to Claudia’s business – Tabitha Harrier Concierge, which is focused on efficiency and results and far from whimsical. The writing and publishing of the book is a story in itself. More than twenty years ago, Claudia and her sister whiled away school vacation hours writing and illustrating a gentle tale of imagination. The book, crayon drawings and paste‑on letters in its original form, languished in a box in an attic for some twenty years. Three years ago, Claudia shared the story of the book’s creation with a computer‑savvy friend who scanned the original text and drawings to a computer file. Another of Claudia’s friends, a graphic artist, readied the book for publication in both electronic and hard copy form. Claudia’s book is a delightful look at imaginings that invite discussion between parent or grandparent and young children. The book is especially fun as a read‑aloud book for young children. Claudia’s book and her interest in encouraging children’s literacy is consistent with her membership in Springfield Township Rotary Club. Rotary’s goals include special focus on promoting children’s literacy both in the United States and internationally. Whoever Heard of Such a Thing is available from Kindle.com, Amazon.com and Blurb.com in a variety of formats.

Local Author Launches New Book at Springfield Rotary Club

July 29, 2013 by Tim Ernst Leave a Comment

Claudia_childrensbook_2013Claudia Campbell (center), Rotarian and Children’s Book author, launched her new book at the Springfield Rotary Luncheon held at Sandy Run Country Club. Claudia, a long time Rotarian, is the proprietor of Tabitha Harrier Concierge, LLC of Flourtown.

In her business, she handles a wide variety of projects for a diverse client base and in her spare time, she enjoys writing children’s books – a life long fascination. In fact, Claudia wrote Whoever Heard of Such a Thing when she was a teenager. Her sister Betsy Campbell (right), also a youngster at the time, did the original illustrations in colored pencil and crayon.

Claudia’s book is a delightful romp through the world of whimsical imagination and is especially suitable as a read-aloud book for a parent or grandparent. Claudia is already well into the writing of her next book – a story of a day in Spring.

Whoever Heard of Such a Thing is available from Kindle.com, Amazon.com and Blurb.com in a variety of formats. The author and her illustrator are seen here with fellow Rotarian Mike Creeden and Sandy Run Country Club, where Rotary meets in Springfield Township.

Rotary Honors MLK Day with Service Above Self for Face to Face

January 23, 2013 by Tim Ernst Leave a Comment

The Rotary Club of Springfield Township participated along with The Springfield Community Foundation to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr through a day of service at the Springfield Township High School. Rotary President Linda Silva, presented to Mary-Kay Meeks-Hank, Executive Director of Face to Face, a check for $5,000 during the program. Face to Face offers dignity, compassion, and a sense of community to hundreds of disenfranchised men and women. Located in Germantown, it is a haven of food, human warmth, and access to solutions to life’s challenges. The Rotary tasked themselves with a service project this year to help Face to Face on numerous facets. In addition to the $5,000 donation to the facility, the Rotary Club along with local businesses and contributors have donated over 6,000 items. Most of these items were sorted and organized into Plastic Bags donated by Bonus Marketing of Flourtown. The “Washeteria” bags contain basic sanitary items to give the less fortunate the ability to shower and clean themselves up in a respectful and dignified way. Today marked the culmination of the Rotary’s fundraising as Committee Chair, Claudia Campbell, helped fellow Rotarians serve a nutritious hot meal to 150 people at the facility. Monetary donations totaling $750 enabled the Club to pay for the meals and with the help of Karla’ Kitchen from the Flourtown Farmer’s Market, those most in need were provided with a memorable meal and dessert from Sandy Run Country Club in Oreland. As one of the speakers at Community Service Award Presentation stated, it is a good thing to walk in another’s footsteps, but even better to leave footsteps of your own. The Rotary Club hopes to continue to embrace “Service Above Self” leading to way for others to serve their community and the world.
