The Rotary Club of Springfield Township was honored to have Nancy J. Becker, Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds as our weekly guest speaker. She spoke about the hundreds of thousands she has saved local tax payers by organizing and streamlining the department. She relayed a great deal of information that may not be known by the average resident. Her office is open weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:15 pm. Her Department has records dating back as far as September 10, 1784. The department records and stores veterans DD214 at no cost. Nancy also told us of companies who are contacting residents with letters that look like they are government agencies, but are in fact private firms telling them they should have a copy of their deed. These private firms charge $59.50 to $69.50 for the copy of a deed. She stated having a copy of your deed is in fact a good idea, however her department sends copies at $5.00 or $10 for a certified copy. To request a copy of your deed send a letter with the book and page of the document along with the payment and a self addressed stamped envelope (large envelope) to Recorder of Deeds, P.O. Box 311, Norristown, PA 19404-0311 or online atwww.montcopa.org/rod (select search public records) and request a certified copy.
