62nd Annual Changeover Dinner Welcomes New Board and Thanks Past Leaders

Springfield Township Rotary Club celebrated their 62nd Annual Changeover Dinner on Tuesday June 11th at Sandy Run Country Club in Oreland. The evening celebrated the outgoing 2018-2019 Board as well as acknowledged the 2019-2020 Board and the services of the 2018-2019 President Dennis Murray. Rotary is a service based organization of over 1.2 million individuals world wide. Rotarians are men and women who live or work in the community who want to make the world a better place through fellowship and volunteerism. The Springfield Township Chapter has 60 members. Joy Zwicker Receives Rotary International Recognition

Springfield Township Rotary Club is very proud to announce that one of their own has received International Recognition. Rotarian Joy Zwicker, who has been with the Springfield Rotary Club since 1996, has always been an important member of the Club. She has served as President, Treasurer, and as an Assistant District Governor. On Tuesday, March 25th, the Rotary welcomed current District Governor Frank Romano, Assistant District Governor Bruce Dearnley, and Past District Governor Tony Jannetta. Joy Zwicker was surprised with being awarded Rotary International’s Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians. The award recognizes that the strength of the Rotary ideal is founded on the service carried out by club members worldwide, and this citation provides a means for Rotary Clubs to personally recognize a member for outstanding efforts in the five Avenues of Service. The Avenues include; Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service, and New Generations Service. Zwicker was also awarded her third Paul Harris Fellow. The Paul Harris Fellow is awarded to honor Rotarians for generous contributions to The Rotary Foundation which are essential to securing and growing Rotary programs throughout the world. Changeover Night 2011

The 2011 Edition of Changeover Night was held June 14, 2011 at the Sandy Run Country Club as a celebration to honor our outgoing and incoming officers of the Rotary Club of Springfield Township. It was a night of laughter, fellowship and a few tears as we remembered several members who passed away over the last Rotary Year, including Tom Timoney and John Brady.

Jeff Kroberger emceed the evening and Mick Kelly, a bag piper from The Philadelphia Emerald Society Pipe Band added a touch of the “old country” for outgoing President Jack Norrie. The new Board was welcomed in for the new Rotary year and incoming President Roseann Nyiri presented Colleen Robinson (below) of the Springfield Community Foundation with the 2011 Citizenship Award.

Board Member and Rotary Foundation Chair: Maureen McGettigan then explained the Paul Harris Fellow awards and that the club saw fit to award three in 2011.

Walt Long (Presented by Mandy Helwig) – for his tireless work internationally with the Water Tower in Tanzania and his consistent support of the club locally.

Carol Getz (Presented by Rosann Nyiri) – for her continued “mothering” of the club, planning fun fellowship events and continued support and planning of events such as Changeover Night and Charter Night.

Tim Ernst (Presented by Teresa Buzniak) – for his support of Rotary projects through technology, running the email notification system for Bingo, Fruit Sale and other events and using his talents to revamp the club’s website.

Jack Norrie, as outgoing president, made his presentation of $5,000 to Shelter Box USA, one of his goals of his presidency to Allan Syphers, a Blue Bell Rotarian and District 7430 Shelter Box Representative. The money will be used to purchase five shelter boxes that the club can track in the future and help those in need of shelter, food and water around the world.

Jack also made his President’s awards to several club members who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty to keep the club running smoothly. George Schaefer was recognized for his commitment to a successful Fruit Sale. Janine Corbett (pictured above with Jack) was cited for her excellence as Program Chair. Mandy Helwig and Teresa Buzniak were awarded respectfully Rotary Secretary of the Decade and Rotary Treasurer of the Decade Awards.

Jeff Kroberger had the crowd in stitches as he turned the tables on outgoing president, Jack Norrie and administered his own trivia quiz complete with “wiener” references and ended with a stirring tribute to Jack’s Scottish and University of Edinburgh roots with a reading of Robert Burns’ My Heart’s in the Highlands while the evening’s piper played Amazing Grace.

Roseann Nyiri then presented Jack with the past president’s pin and gavel and Jack then made the presentation of the President’s Pin to Roseann. Roseann then concluded the festivities with her vision for the next Rotary year that will fall within the Rotary International theme of “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity.”

Interact Change Over Ceremony Takes Place at Rotary Meeting

The Springfield Township Rotary Club hosted the Springfield Township Interact and Phil-Mont Christian Academy Change Over ceremony at their weekly meeting. Joy L. Zwicker, Interact Committee Chair moderated the program and highlighted both clubs achievements and challenged the new board to continue the momentum as they fill the shoes of the former board.

Interact Leaders Honored for 2010-2011 Work

The Springfield Township Rotary Club awarded Springfield Township High School Interactors and the Phil-Mont Christian Academy Interactor the Service Above Self Award on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Since 1999 this award has been presented to the Interactors who are true community service champions and exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. The student(s) from each school are honored with a framed certificate of achievement and a $100 check from the club. Joy Zwicker, Interact Committee Chair presented the awards to:

Changeover Dinner 2010

The new board and new President Jack Norrie were welcomed and formally installed to lead the Rotary Club in 2010 and 2011. President Jim Pearce transferred power and the President’s pin to Jack Norrie. Also Assistant District Governor Joy Zwicker present a check from the club to End Polio Now – a Rotary Intiative for which the club worked all year long to raise funds, and recognized Bob McGrory for his work in that initiative. Held on a beautiful early summer evening, the event was partially held on the new outdoor deck of Sandy Run Country Club’s new clubhouse facilities.

Changeover Dinner 2009

Changeover happens in June/July when the outgoing club president and the board of directors is honored and the new president and board are welcomed. The pinning of President’s pin takes place between the outgoing President (for 2009 this was Steve Schagrin) to the new President Jim Pearce. Also President’s awards are given to members who have been outstanding in their work and commitment to Rotary values.
