The Springfield Township Rotary Club’s latest project involved “refreshing” the Township Roadway Banners that they had funded over 10 years ago and time and weather had taken their toll on the previous banners. With the assistance of the Township’s Highway Department the new banners were ordered, printed, and hung on light poles mainly up and down Bethlehem Pike during October 2020.
The Club’s first Wine and Beer Tasting will take place on June 21, 2018, at Flourtown Country Club. Starting at 5:30 PM.

Admission includes tastings from local wineries and craft breweries. Food Bar with Sliders – vegetarian & beef- as well as a Mashtini Bar with all the fixings and Dessert Bar. Drink Station with Non Alcoholic Beverages will be available.

Entertainment will be provided courtesy the Fort Washington School of Rock who are giving back to their community and providing fun filled entertainment for the evening.

Our members had a chance to meet and greet with Interact Club members from Philmont Christian Academy and Springfield Township High School. One student from each school was awarded with the Interact award. This is presented to the student who shows leadership and a genuine desire to help others.
Interact Club members updated Rotary on upcoming fundraisers and the status of past events. Both schools came prepared with a presentation including songs and a clever rap by Philmont introducing each other.
Along with Interact, Rotary welcomed a new member Maggie, sponsored by Amanda Helwig.
Congratulations to all students on their accomplishments who we hope to see back as Rotarians. Rotary will meet next Tuesday at Sandy Run to welcome local Valedictorians.
Springfield Township Commissioner Bob Gillies visited Rotary to update Rotarians on the Municipal Campus Plan for Springfield Township. The plan, which has been 10 years in the making, is designed to meet the current needs of the Township plus some. Plans include a far larger library, safer Public Works Department, Ambulance Building and creating a more modernized Police Building and Administration Building. The plan is also designed to create a more inviting entrance for the community with public areas and green space. The Township hopes to receive grants towards the building of the new library to help off set costs. Pictured Left to Right: Commissioner Bob Gillies and Rotary President Mike Creeden.
Springfield Township Rotary Club had a very special Guest this week, Gary S Fedorcha District 7430 Governor 2014-15. Gary met with the Rotary Board and then joined the Club for their regular meeting. He invited the club to strive to reach his goal for the Rotary year, to Light Up Rotary thru Education. Membership Retention and an Increase in Recruitment and well as contributing to the Foundation were highlights of his speech. When Rotarians give to the Foundation, funds come back to our District for matching grants to do good in our own communities. Also honored were Rotarians Bonnie G. Ostrofsky and Bill Piszek with their 4th Paul Harris Pins. When a Rotarian reached $1,000 in contributions to the Foundation or are gifted recognition points from the Club they are honored with a pin. John Hayden from Antonelli Institute was the speaker recently at a Rotary Club Meeting where he explained the Institute is celebrating 75 years of history teaching students the visual arts. Below is Club President George Schaefer and John Hayden. The Rotarians also presented a check for $1000.00 to Face to Face, a local facility and organization that offers a Dining Room, a nurse managed Health Center, a Legal Center, a Social Services Center and Children’s Summer Camps and After School programs. We also have a Washeteria where people can take a hot shower and receive a new set of clothes. Face to Face serves 2,500 annually and has been a stable presence in Germantown for over 20 years. They also recognized Honorary Rotarian Joe Bonus for always being willing to help in Rotary Projects.

The club recognized Bob Ryan for donating the chicken for the MLK Day lunch at Face to Face. Because of the efforts of Mike Creeden from Sandy Run Country Club, most of the food for the luncheon was donated. This freed up the money that the club allocated for the luncheon to be able to present a $1,000 check to Face to Face. Additionally, the club was able to donated 2,000 toiletry items for the washeteria.
Because of his monumental work on the Springfield Rotary projects over the past years, the Rotary Club presented an Honorary Membership to Joe Bonus.
Program: John Hayden, Director of the Antonelli School of Photography located in Springfield Township presented information about the school, its programs and most of all, its successful alumni. The school was founded in 1938 by Severo Antonelli. His work is exhibited in the Woodmere Art Museum. The school is accredited by the Association of Career Schools and Colleges and authorized to award Associate Degrees. Its distinguished alumni include those whose works have been featured on Sports Illustrated, Time Magazine and National Geographic to name just a few. The school motto is “Develop Passion-Design the Future.”
The Springfield Township Rotary Club was pleased to host Springfield Township Manager, Don Berger on February 11th. Mr. Berger gave a recap on various improvements to the community recently and discussed several budget items. Topics included the East Mill Road Bridge, The Movie Tavern, and storm water management projects. Pictured Left to Right, President George Schaefer and Township Manager Don Berger.
The Springfield Township Rotary Club completed their $20,000 + renovation and addition to the Flourtown Erdenheim War Memorial last fall. Continuing to maintain the site, Philip Dominic and others from Laurel Hill Gardens of Chestnut Hill, volunteered their time to weed, mulch and plant annuals at the memorial to spruce it up for the Labor Day weekend. A local resident and war veteran from Springfield Township stopped by during the clean up to express his thanks to the Rotary Club and to Laurel Hill Gardens for remembering all Veterans Service.
